make sure after you have connected your usb device to your mac you eject it so that your guest OS has a chance to grab it. Use the virtual box usb feature to mount it. hope this solves you problem.

I just left the Vendor ID (VID) intact, since I own more than one adapter from this vendor, and it seemed to work.

However:
The software on the Windows XP end uses Sockets to connect to the adapter. The connection is intermittent. It works for 30 seconds or so, then drops.

There are a lot of adapters out there based on Sigmatel transceivers. I am using the Actisys IR4010U.

I am still testing, but, it seems the virtual serial port developed by the Actisys drivers is working.

Is it possible there is a problem with the sockets implementation?

Thanks. Clearing all the fields but the name field also worked for the Canon A540 in an WinXP Guest (and a Vista host).

Thank you very much. It works with removing all data as you said. Now I can use my beloved Polar CS600 bicycle computer! I am very happy!

in version 3.1.6 it seems to work again!
but still i had problems with Vista as the guest os, because the Irda-Device-Driver would be erroneous (code 39).
So i got a XP-Driver from the Polar-Homepage and now it works fine.

This solution worked well for my Polar IrDA stick until I connected my iPod and Virtualbox captured it instead of iTunes.

I tried keeping the Name, Vendor ID and Product ID of the IrDA stick and blanked out the rest. All working nicely now (with version 3.1.6).

Hello everyone. I had the same issue when trying to capture a 500gb ext usb disk (virtual box version 4.2.6) on my laptop (Toshiba L850).

I tried many of the solutions on the net with no success. The problem was solved when I attached the disk to a usb 2.0 port instead of the usb 3.0 I was trying till now.

Hope this helps someone having the same issue... :)
