My Network Switch Log says Invalid Source Mac Address from my VirtualBox Guest OS (CentOS)

Post by renantea »

Hello,

Newbie here. Can you please help resolve and advise an issue with my network switch detecting a VirtualBox Guest OS as having an invalid source mac address.

Here is the log on my switch:
Invalid source mac address.(SourceMAC=0000-0000-0000, SourceIP=192.168.0.100, SourceInterface=GigabitEthernet0/0/1, DropTime=2021/03/31 10:15:00)
Is there any way to solve this issue? It looks like my network switch failed to recognise the Mac Address of my virtual machine, which is 0800xxx.

Check my config below:
VirtualBox version: 6.1.18 r142142
Guest OS Network setting
Bridged Interface via LAN
Type: Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (82540EM)
Mac Address: 0800xxx
Promiscuous Mode: Allow All

Any advise is highly appreciated.

A MAC address of 0 is certainly invalid. Check your VM settings, specifically the advanced config of the network card.

Thanks for the insight. Will try to change the mac address. Are you referring to the mac address of 0800xxx? If it is, I am just puzzled because this mac address is actually randomly generated by default by Virtualbox.

He is referring to the MAC address with all 0 in the error message.
Are you using a bridged interface over LAN or Wifi?
