Error after installing VB 6.1 on Big Sur

Post by Newbie_trl »

I'm an occasional user of VB and have always been able to sort out my issues running on my iMac. Can't seem to find help with this one searching on the forums, though...

I had hard drive issues which forced me to erase my HD, install new version of Big Sur (11.0.1), and restore my system. I then launched my older version of VB and found a new version was available - 6.1. Installed that, but can't get past this error message, as soon as you hit, OK, the app closes:

You must specify a machine to start, using the command line.

Usage: VirtualBoxVM --startvm <name|UUID>
Starts the VirtualBox virtual machine with the given name or unique identifier (UUID).

I assume this is a Terminal command, but I can't seem to use the correct syntax.

Many thanks for your help!!!

Hmmm, so I fixed this problem by going back to my previous version of VB, 6.1.14. When launched from my aux HD, VB loads normally. However, the version number says it is now 6.1.16. As long as I continue to launch VB from my aux HD, it works. Not sure what is going on, but I'm OK with it... Obviously I have a conflict somewhere, but not sure how to clean it up.
