a lot of crashing in Mohave
a lot of crashing in Mohave
I updated to the latest version of VirtualBox and now it crashes a lot. Sometimes I just click on the VirtualBox Manager window and it crashes. Sometimes I click on a preference button and it crashes. If I have a guest running, those stay pretty stable, it's just the Manager window that crashes a lot.

Always use the complete version string when talking about versions. In a couple of months your post is going to be incorrect...ZenJim wrote:I updated to the latest version of VirtualBox
• What if you downgrade? Does it still crash?
• Any other Qt-based software installed?
• Can you find, ZIP and attach a crash log?

gotcha, sorry about that. I'm running version 5.2.20 r125813 (Qt5.6.3)
no other Qt apps running that I'm aware of. Right now just Safari and iTunes and Mail
just crashed again, attached log

Re: a lot of crashing in Mohave
p.s. I tried to install 5.1.38 and part of it was incompatible and couldn't install it. I don't see where to get a previous 5.2.x version to downgrade to.
Now, whenever I go into preference > network > and try to get properties of a network card, it crashes.

Re: a lot of crashing in Mohave
update: I found where to download previous 5.2.x versions, got the 5.2.18 version and installed it and it crashed when clicking on the properties in the network adapter preferences too.
Re: a lot of crashing in Mohave
another update: I completely uninstalled virtualbox and reinstalled it and installed the extension pack. That allowed me to get into the network adapter properties and make the needed changes. But it still crashes a lot. For example, I was working in some VMs and then clicked on the manager window and it crashed. I tried searching help content and it crashed. I've attached latest logs.

Re: a lot of crashing in Mohave
I completely removed 5.2.20 and installed 5.2.18 and it was working fine until I closed the 2 guest VMs and the main window crashed

Re: a lot of crashing in Mohave
Mine is crashing a lot too when using the VB window. I'm not sure it crashes in the guest itself. It does not seem fast though like it used to.
Re: a lot of crashing in Mohave
I, too, am seeing my VMs crash regularly since upgrading my Macbook to Mojave. They all show this same error in the logs in ~/Library/DiagnosticReports/VirtualBoxVM_YYYY-DD-MM-HHMMSS_hostname:
Application Specific Information:
abort() called
VirtualBoxVM(61032,0x1136a55c0) malloc: Incorrect checksum for freed object 0x7ffe0a175e00: probably modified after being freed.
Corrupt value: 0x37003700580058
The "Corrupt value" and exact value of "freed object" changes, but as near as I can tell everything else is the same for each crash. This happens with multiple flavors of Linux: CentOS 6, CentOS 7, and Debian 9.
I am running VirtualBox Version 5.2.20 r125813 (Qt5.6.3)
MacOS Version 10.14 (Mojave)

Re: a lot of crashing in Mojave
Host: 2018 Mac Mini running MacOS Mojave 10.14.5
VirtualBox version: 6.0.8 r130520 (Qt5.6.3)
Guest: Windows 10 Home 1806
I've had all kinds of troubles since upgrading to this Mini. The VB VM is rock solid running under El Capitan on a MacBook Pro, but I'm facing crashes on the Mini frequently.
It's not that VB is crashing, it's that when I launch VB's VM, then the Mac crashes. It does not always happen, just sometimes, but way too often.
Log attached. Any ideas what's wrong?
Other info: seems Mojave and/or MacMini doesn't play nicely with USB3 always. I've had problems with the Mini suddenly un-mounting a USB 3.0 external drive (not related to the VirtualBox VM), and sometimes just crashing after that. I wonder if this VB problem also has something to do with USB 3.0. I changed the setting after moving the VM from the MacBook Pro to the Mini so in Settings > Ports > USB, it's now set to "USB 3.0 (xHCI) Controller".
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Re: a lot of crashing in Mohave
How is this going? I've got Virtualbox 6.0.8 GUI still crashing each time a VM is closed. (eg when powering off).
Host : Mohave 10.14.5 (18F132)
Virtualbox : 6.0.8 with VBox Additions added
Guest : All, as far as I can work out. But for example, a default VM is Windows 7 (64 bit), delete the hard disk, and press finish.
OS Guest : Immaterial (Could be a diskless machine even). If I just power it up and press F12 to go into the Boot screen, then power it off again, virtualbox will still quit
NB, I've already uninstalled Virtualbox and reinstalled it again. Same.

Re: a lot of crashing in Mohave
Then it must be some other software that's installed on your Mac that's interfering with VirtualBox, and VirtualBox seems to trigger that crash. So, what do you have installed?vboxuser799 wrote:when I launch VB's VM, then the Mac crashes
BTW, nothing funny in your log, neither I would expect to see something.

Re: a lot of crashing in Mohave
@vboxuser799 I also have these random crashes with a mini 2018 and VB 6.0.8 on 10.14.5 (18F132).
Do you also use Logitech Options?
t looks to hard crash right after resuming from resume or at startup.
Neithertheless it sometimes goes OK.
It tested RAM with Remember but it is OK,
moved machine file from external HDD to internal SSD and still crashes.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I added VBox Extension Pack. Nothing changed.
2 different guests crash the computer.
