import (register) an existing VM without an ova file

Post by LMHmedchem »

Hello,

I am running virtualbox 6.1.2 on CentOS 7 64-bit. I have a windows VM that I was using on another linux distribution and would like to use it in CentOS as well. I seem to remember that there was a way to use the existing .vbox and .vmdk files in a new VM without exporting an ova file and re-importing it. I can't seem to find the information I was thinking of anywhere.

Is this possible or am I imagining things? If it is possible, is it not recommended for various reasons? I think I was using the VM with vbox 5.1 on the other system and I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
