Hello, I was looking for the graphical interpretation of the VBOX structure and best backup strategy. In my case I installed VBOX on Debian Buster. I want to visualize the VBOX structure and wonder if anyone has a graphical example. I have attached a drawing that could be corrected or expanded.

concerns:
1. loos of power - VBOX can not start the guest OS
2. improper shutdown
3. hardware failure

What is the best way/strategy to backup my platform to survive the above scenarios.

thank you.

The file structure is simple. Every VM has its own folder/directory. The ideal backup involves copying the VM folder to secondary storage. The organisation of files below that is version dependant and nothing you need to care about.

VirtualBox stores manager preferences in a different folder <userhome>/.VirtualBox, but as mentioned those are just preferences and a list of VMs, nothing that desperately needs to be backed up since it can be recreated about as quickly as you could restore it.
