IDE or AHCI for Windows XP 32bits

My current install of Windows XP is installed with the HDD in IDE mode. My motherboard and BIOS (Gigabyte Z68A-D3-B3) is capable of AHCI. I do have the drivers and I know how to add them to Windows XP (I haven't tried yet but it should work!) before I copy the install for import into VirtualBox. My question is: is it worthwhile? will it improve access to the virtual HDD? any other advantage/improvements?
Once I copy the install with 'Disk2VHD' I will change the setting to AHCI anyway before installing Linux Mint 64bits as the Host OS. Would it matter if the Host is running in AHCI and the Guest in IDE?
Thanks
