VM failed to boot VB 6.0.8/CentOS 7

Post by Tony Su »

My VM on VirtualBox 6.0.8 failed to boot with some error message (I failed to upload the full log file with error message exceeding 128KB limit):
00:00:03.096508 E1000#2: Max TX Delay : 0
00:00:03.103696 GIM: KVM: Resetting MSRs
00:00:03.105387 Changing the VM state from 'DESTROYING' to 'TERMINATED'
00:00:03.108312 Console: Machine state changed to 'PoweredOff'
00:00:03.614556 GUI: Passing request to close Runtime UI from machine-logic to UI session.
00:00:04.081028 GUI: UIMachineViewNormal::resendSizeHint: Restoring guest size-hint for screen 0 to 800x600
00:00:04.081069 ERROR [COM]: aRC=E_ACCESSDENIED (0x80070005) aIID={ab4164db-c13e-4dab-842d-61ee3f0c1e87} aComponent={DisplayWrap} aText={The console is not powered up}, preserve=false aResultDetail=0
00:00:04.081176 GUI: Aborting startup due to invalid machine state detected: 1
Solution I tried
1) reinstall VirtualBox by rpm -e and rpm rpm -vhi
2) reinstall Extenstion Pack and confirmed by VBox.log
00:00:00.435114 Installed Extension Packs:
00:00:00.435122 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack (Version: 6.0.8 r130520; VRDE Module: VBoxVRDP)

Even if you ZIP it?

I hope that you followed the instructions in the Linux Downloads and added the VirtualBox repository, otherwise you're getting the CentOS fork, which is not supported here. If you want support here, you should download the official VirtualBox from the page above.

Hi @socratis,

I followed the installation guide by the link you provided and reinstalled VirtualBox without any error.
[tony@tony-dev Logs]$ yum list installed | grep -i virtualbox
VirtualBox-6.0.x86_64 6.0.8_130520_el7-1 @virtualbox
However, my VM still failed with the same error message.

I attached the log file in gzip format.

  • Lower the CPUs from 4 to 2.
  • Increase the VRAM from 16 to 64 MB.
  • Change the vGPU from VMSVGA to VBoxVGA.
Also, does this happen with every client, or just this one. Because honestly this thing is DOA...

Hi @socratis,

Thanks for your suggestions.
Let me try them tomorrow.

btw. The boot failure in fact happens for all VM machines with the same error message.
if DOA means Dead on Arrival, yes. it's DOA.

I don't know if I mentioned it or not, but partial logs are not that helpful I'm afraid. Not at all actually. Please ZIP and attach the full log. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.
