[WorksForMe] Runtime error opening ...'/R-winxp-vb.vbox

Post by robbyx »

runtime error opening ...'/R-winxp-vb.vbox' for reading: -102 (File not found.).
/home/vbox/vbox-6.0.4/src/VBox/Main/src-server/MachineImpl.cpp[750] (nsresult Machine::i_registeredInit()).
Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component: MachineWrap
Interface: IMachine {5047460a-265d-4538-b23e-ddba5fb84976}
I can see in the directory:
vbox, vdi re the R-winxp-vb

Is there a way to repair the vdi file?

The error message is saying that the .vbox file is not found. What you have probably been left with in that directory is a .vbox-prev and a .vbi file. Copy the .vbox-prev to the same filename with .vbox extension and hopefully that will fix it.

I have different files remaining:
R...vdi (13 GiB)
R....vbox (9.6kb)

Can I do anything with them?

Post the .vbox file, ZIPPED.
And if you are thinking about obfuscating anything, please don't. Don't even bother uploading the .vbox file...

So, they're there, all of them intact!!! Something is rotten in Denmark...

Can you please copy the exact error? I can't help you if you post errors like:
robbyx wrote:...'/R-winxp-vb.vbox'
and
robbyx wrote:R....vbox (9.6kb)
I think you did it to save time/space, but those 3 periods are not real, or shouldn't be.

Yes, this is much better, thank you.

Now, what is this "/media/xhd_system_data/VirtualBox Winxp/R-winxp-vb/R-winxp-vb.vbox"? How did the VM get there? Do you have read-write access? Did this VM *ever* run on this computer? Or did you copied the VM from somewhere else?

The more details you give us about the whole story, the better we can help you.

It seems I have it working. Thank you for pointing out that the files might not have even been used. That sent me to looking if there was more than one location for the files and I found another one which I had sent to you without realising they were from a different location. The other backup location works and loads.

It can happen if you mix and match the backups with the real data. Just backup and put the backup in the closet/desk and forget about it, except in the case that you need to do a restore.

Glad you got it finally resolved. Marking as [WorksForMe].
