Raspberry Pi guest Screen Resolution problem

Post by gurrae »

I'm running VB on a Ubuntu 18.10 host.

When running Ubuntu guest VM:s, everything works fine, ( all resolutions under the Virtual Box View/Virtual Screen menu are selectable).

When running Raspberry Pi x86 VM:s, it is not possible to change the screen resolution,
(there is no screen resolution alternative in the Raspberry Pi Configuration menu & all screen resolution alternatives under VB View/Virtual screen menu are greyed out).
Im running Virtual Box 6.02 with the latest version of Guest Additions (6.02), & the Raspberry Pi release is 9.6 (stretch).

Any ideas how to fix this ??

In order to change the guest resolution, you need to have the Guest Additions (GAs) installed on a guest. If a guest doesn't have GAs, you can't change the resolution.

The only thing you could do is to change the scaling factor, either from the VM Settings » Display » Screen » Scale Factor, or the Display icon on the bottom, the status bar.

Unless there are specific switches to boot the guest in a higher resolution, I wouldn't have the faintest idea if that's the case for your guest, you would have to ask the guest's maker.

Hi.
The latest Guest Additions CD (6.02) is installed for the guests & everything except screen resolution works fine (USB, disks etc.).

My Ubuntu guests has all screen resolutions selectable, but the Raspberry Pi x86 guest has all screen resolutions greyed out (both in the View menu and at the screen icon at the bottom of the guest window.
