Installing VirtualBox for Linux on an external location

Hi, first time poster, first time VB user.
Can anyone tell me in simple terms, (cos I have had a stroke) how to install virtualbox on my external ssd

In Linux, OSX and Solaris hosts, you can't install VirtualBox wherever you want to. It needs to be installed in specific system known directories, otherwise it will fail to launch due to what's known as a "hardening check". Read the general idea and background about hardening here. It's geared towards Win users, but the same security logic applies in all host OSes.
