VirtualBox Crash with Win10 guest

Post by leoaloha »

I have Xubuntu 18.04 with kernel 4.18.7. Virtualbox 5.2.19 r125117. All my other guests (android, MacOS, Ubuntu, Win7pro) are stable, however, Win10 freezes the xfce4 WM. Only the mouse moves. If someone has help that is fine. I am posting to help the developers. This may not be the forum for it -if someone can direct me to where.

THis seems to be a duplicate of viewtopic.php?f=7&t=89463

UPDATE:

I looked in the log file and found;
VMMDev: Guest Log: VBoxMP::DxgkDdiQueryCurrentFenceNew: WARNING! :uncompleted fences, u32FenceSubmitted(2476), u32FenceCompleted(2474) u32FenceProcessed(2474)

Looked up fix for that and it was suggested that turn off 3d acceleration. Win10 guest works fine after that. It looks like Ubuntu 18.04 and derivatives use a new dirver for NVidia version 390. going to drop back to 340.106.
Seems like the software driver update program fails to install version 340. I'll look into that.

Well that was a chore. the 18.04 upgrade left a lot of stuck libraries around. In any case with the Win10 guest and NVidia driver 340 and 3D acceleration still freezes the WM. have to leave 3D acceleration off for now
