Guest Windows 10 April 2018 very slow and buggy on Host Gentoo Linux

Post by dbautista »

Hi to all!

I have several Gentoo Linux boxes with VirtualBox. The thing is that only in one of them (Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400, 8GB RAM, SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GT710) a guest Windows 10 April 2018 vm is very slow and buggy (sometimes it even freezes), while in the other machines (Intel Core i3 550, 8 GB RAM, SSD, Intel graphics) it runs smoothly.

I see these errors in the logs (more in the attachment):

00:00:20.417447 HDA: Codec reset

00:14:37.366541 TM: Giving up catch-up attempt at a 60 004 232 328 ns lag; new total: 60 004 232 328 ns

What could it be?

Thanks in advance!

None of those "errors" are errors, they are just progress reports.
VirtualBox VM 5.2.18_Gentoo r123745 linux.amd64 (Aug 16 2018 05:24:32) release log
...
00:00:00.472029 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack (Version: 5.2.18 r124319; VRDE Module: VBoxVRDP)
You are attempting to use the official VirtualBox extension pack on host software which is not the official VirtualBox release. Try again with the official software and then we can discuss it further. Alternatively, look for support from wherever you got the Gentoo fork from.
