Can't display 3840x2160 resolution

Post by shin »

Host OS is Linux Mint 19 MATE 64bit.
Virtualbox version is 5.2.16 r123759 (Qt5.9.5).
Guest OS is Windows 10.

Guest OS(Windows 10) can't display by 3840x2160 resolution.
Maximum setting is 1920x1080.
Of course, I installed Guest Additions CD on guest OS.

When host OS was Linux Mint 18.3 MATE 64, guest OS(Windows 10) could displayed by 3840x2160 automatically.

Please tell me a solution, please.

Please provide a VM log file. With the VM fully shut down, right click it in the GUI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (no other file) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

I'm not sure what impact it will have but from the VBox.log file it looks as though you have 2D and 3D acceleration disabled for the Windows guest. Also we see...
00:00:07.708772 VMMDev: Guest Log: VBoxMP::VBoxMpCrCtlConInit: VBoxMpCrCtlConConnectHgcm failed with rc(-2900), 3D not supported!
00:00:07.708851 VMMDev: Guest Log: VBoxMP::DriverEntry: 3D is NOT supported by the host, falling back to display-only mode..
You may need to look to improve the drivers and / or supporting software you have installed on your host.

I see no evidence in the log that a 3840x2160 display size was even attempted.

What is the native display size of the host?

In the manager GUI, what is the setting for File|Preferences|Display|Max Guest Screen Size?

Thank you, Andy.
When I enabled 2D and 3D acceleration for the Windows guest, a quarter of full size desktop appeared without synchronization between desktop icons and mouse.

Thank you, mpack.
The native display size of the host is 3840x2160.
In the manager GUI the setting for File|Preferences|Display|Max Guest Screen Size is "Automatic".

When host OS was Linux Mint 18.3 MATE 64bit, guest OS(Windows 10, Arch Linux, FreeBSD and other Linux) could display by 3840x2160 AUTOMATICALLY.

The only way to get a VM display size equal to the native screen size of the host is to select fullscreen mode (host+F).

I would also try setting "Max Guest Screen Size" to None.

VM is running by fullscreen mode.
I typed host+F again and again, but VM couldn't display 3840x2160 resolution.

I tried to set "Max Guest Screen Size" to "None". But nothing has changed.

Please help me, please.

I disabled DisplayPort on Linux host. Then I could display 3840x2160 on Windows guest.

Wait a minute... Were you using an external monitor attached to your host? And by "disabled DisplayPort" you mean that you took out that monitor off-line? Or you somehow disabled the whole DisplayPort from "being" there? And if so, how?
