Does lowlatency kernel for Linux host interefere with hypervisor

Post by falcon74 »

Hi,

The question is completely theoretical for the moment. I tried to do a bit of research, but didn't find much about low-latency kernel used for host-OS and whether it works perfectly well with Virtualbox or not, although I did find some thread around usage of low-latency kernel inside guest-OS. I use low-latency kernel on the host-OS because the host-OS is setup as a music production workstation, with USB audio interfaces connected, that work well only with low-latency kernel, and not so well with generic kernel.

Thus the question:
Would using lowlatency kernel work well, or will it potentially interfere with working of Virtualbox ?

I am a bit afraid to try this out, as the PC is right now in the midst of some project work and too crucial, if something were to go wrong. If anyone has tried successfully, or failed, or is aware of reasons based on understand of hypervisor and the kernel to make an authoritative assessment, would be highly appreciated.

TIA,
bd
