Hi,
Running fedora28, 4.16.12-300.fc28.x86_64
VirtualBox-5.1.x86_64 5.1.38_122592_fedora26-1
GuestOS windows10
I have a few "share folders" made available for windows.
I can create a dir or files, but i cannot change the dir name (perm 777)
I am however able to change the name of a normal file.
When i try to change the dir name in win10 i get thrown the error: 0x80004005.
I see no SElinux violations, nor do i see any errors in linux
Guest extensions have been installed on wn10.
Any ideas on where to look?
Thank you in advance.

How are you doing that? You haven't told us too many details. Start by looking at the "Minimum information needed for assistance". Specifically for the VM log file ("VBox.log.zip"), here's what you do:thijn wrote:but i cannot change the dir name
- Gathering the necessary information:
- Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state).
- Observe the error, i.e. try to change the directory.
- Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
- With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
- Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.

Re: Guest System is unable to change dir name in a " shared folder"
HI,
I appologize for not providing enough info.'
The version as mentioned
Running fedora28, 4.16.12-300.fc28.x86_64
VirtualBox-5.1.x86_64 5.1.38_122592_fedora26-1
GuestOS windows10
Host has 16GB, guest has 4096MB
Guest additions are installed
So by changing the dir name i go into one of the "Shared Folder"
For example i have /home/thijn/Downloads shared.
Windows show this dir as F:
In Windows i got into F: (rightmouse click) new folder.
The first issue is that i cannot call the dir, it will throw the error "0x80004005"
The new dir is now called "new folder" (windows default).
When i try to change the dir to a new name (by pressing F2), windows throws the same error at me.
Attached the vbox.log.
Thank you in advance.

Do you have additional Antivirus software in your Windows 10 guest?

Hi
Antivirus is disabled
Why would antivirus interfere with me not able to change a directory but allow me to change a filename?

this appears to be a fork: VirtualBox-5.1.x86_64 5.1.38_122592_fedora26-1

First of all, I put it in bold, bold underlined, red bold underlined that you should ZIP your log. How did you miss it!?! What do I have to do to be noticed?
This?ZIP the VBox.log!
Does this happen on top level directories, or it happens if you go a level or two deep? For example, does it happen with "F:\new folder" or does it happen with "F:\Data\new folder". And from the host, can you rename the folder from the host?

That's Windows 10, 1607. That's almost two years old. Skipping upgrades for some reason?00:00:08.312518 VMMDev: Guest Log: 00:00:00.000000 main OS Release: 10.0.14393
