KDE Screen Energy Saving slows Windows guest down

Post by jmu »

Hello everybody.

I have a Fedora 27 linux host (properly updated) running VirtualBox 5.2.12 + Oracle VM Extension Pack with KDE as window manager. My guest VM is the latest Windows 10.

My linux host is configured to never hybernate or sleep. The only one power setting enabled is the "screen energy saving" option wich switchs off the screen after 5 min.

Because I need to access remotely to the Windows guest I have installed TeamViewer on it.

Everything is running smoothly but when the screen energy saving switch off the screen, my remote Windows guest becomes slow and unusable. When the screen switchs back on, the Windows guest performs normally. I tested another remote desktop tools on the Windows guest (g.e RDP and VNC) and noted the same behavior.

I could see that my linux host system was no affected. Remote conections via ssh worked fine and remote X11 as well. CPU frequencies were stable as well.

The funny thing is this issue does not happen when using the Windows guest on headless mode.

Any clue will be appreciated.
