Mouse freezes in Windows and Linux guests on Ubuntu 18.04

I'd like to pipe in and say that I'm still experiencing these issues, I've bumped to VirtualBox 5.2.16 and keep my system relatively up to date. I haven't experienced any issues elsewhere with human input devices at all.

Is there any active assistance on this issue / research by devs? Is there anything else I can provide to help more with the problem?

Same issue for me with very similar software :
lubuntu 18.04
VB : Version 5.2.10_Ubuntu r121806 and GA : 5.2.11-122181-1
Guests debian 9 + lxde and windows 10

In order to get mouse click functional in the Guest, I get out from it using "right Ctl", then doing dummy stuf in host like switch from workspace and back to the vm, mouse is back in the vm.

Moreover, I sometimes experience a freeze of the mouse click also in the host, consequently to the mouse click freeze in debian9 guest. In this case I did not find better than restarting the lightdm service.

PS : I just uninstalled all the virtulabox debian packages and went for last 5.1.38 virtualbox deb package (virtualbox-5.1_5.1.38-122592_Ubuntu_bionic_amd64.deb) from VB site. I had to disable usb functionnality to start my deb9 guest and from now on I didn't get any mouse click freeze until now. Normally I get some freeze after let say fex minutes of use.

I was too optimistic. The mouse freeze still occurs with VB 5.1.38. I Will try out correponding guest addition, with no much hope.

Indeed replacing guest additions with version 5.1.38 doesn't provide any solution!

Mouse click lost after a while (topic 81680) is directly related to problem treated in that post, and deactivation of mouse integration suggested by Markos2680 in that post remove the mouse click problem for me too.

PS : This is probably not related but since I unchecked Mouse integration, my audio is damaged after a while, nothing found to solve that but reboot the vm.

Same problem for me:
ubuntu 18.04
VB 5.2.10
guest machine: W10
Guest add 5.2.11
I have 2 monitors on my PC (Intel I7 64bits)
If i restart the guest machine the problem disappears for a few minutes..
If i uninstall Guest additions i dont get anymore freeze.

When the mouse click is lost, only lost from the guest OS. Mouse still works in host.

Unfortunately not related to my problem, mouse is lost from guest and host.

Is there any additional info I can provide to assist in fixing the issue?

Try to turn off 3D graphics in settings for that guest and see what happens.

If that doesnt work run this and let me know

I've also seen this mouse issue maybe since April, when it happened, my host and guest both lost the mouse click.
I tried many combinations of package downgrade/upgrade, and even kept updating to latest stable testbuilds, but no luck.

Host: Gentoo Linux
Guest: Windows 10 Pro
Virtualbox: testbuild 5.2.19.125384

Until 3 days ago, I updated libX11 to 1.6.7, the mouse issue seems gone.
Working in the guest Win10 for these 3 days, I am not seeing that problem again (yet) ...

Anyone with this issue may also try the new libX11 (maybe also libxcb-1.13.1).

Thankyou!!! I upgraded libX11 from 1.6.6 to 1.6.7 which has fixed the issue, I did not upgrade any other packages. Gentoo host, Virtualbox 5.2.16.123759.

I'm running Fedora 29 using Wayland, so I'm not sure if it applies, but I have libX11 1.6.7 and I still have this issue.
Installed Virtualbox Beta 5.2.23 r127635 to see if it would help, but no go.
I usually just save my VM's state and restore it again so that I can have my mouse clicks back, but it's still pretty painful.

  • Lubuntu 18.04.2 LTS 32bits
    kernel 4.15.0-45-generic
    libx11 2:1-6-4-3ubuntu0.1
    8Gb RAM
  VirtuaBox: v5.2.18
  Guest1: XPsp3 (fails very often after a few cliks)
  Guest2: Windows7 32bits (fails after 10-15 mins, about 100 cliks?)
  Both guests with 3GbRAM. Downsized to 1Gb. Same behaviour.

I almost tried playing with all guests config features(drag and drop, video memory, acceleration...), but no one worked. Hope this info will be useful to someone.

-> click 'Settings'

I can confirm that this issue is still happening. I am running linux mint 18.3 as well as ubuntu 18.04 based images. I have also seen it centos and fedora. I am now using virtualbox 6.0.4 on windows 10.
