This sounds like something is botched seriously in your setup, and it's not restricted to VirtualBox. I think you need to concentrate on the problem outside of the scope of VirtualBox...
computer_guy wrote:My mistake, didn't realize I would need to start up VM after installing correct version.
Yeap, in order to get "the" log, you need to run the VM and observe the error, so that it gets recorded in the log. We don't want to see a random log, from a random run, with random settings. We want to see a log where/when the problem shows in the logs.

For example, this log (after you re-run the VM) shows that you are actually running the official VirtualBox:
VirtualBox VM 5.2.10 r122088 linux.amd64 (Apr 13 2018 20:42:29) release log

I'm about to just give up on this anyway, it's soley a virtualbox issue. There are no permission issues, no read/write issues outside of Virtualbox. VMware works great, finally got around to testing it. I'm just not sure sure why Virtualbox is having these issues, when nothing else is. Normally these type of issues aren't a problem for me to fix, but when it comes to Virtualbox where I have no experience with the linux version it becomes harder. Errors like 'not readable' aren't helpful. Question is, why? That seems to be the answer no one knows. Everything else besides Virtualbox is working great, so if its not fixed it doesn't bother me that much. I just prefer Virutalbox over others because of it's Open-Source model.

Thanks for the help anyway

I'm sorry, you got that backwards; it's solely your issue. Nobody else has reported something like that.
computer_guy wrote:where I have no experience with the linux version it becomes harder.
That may be the source of the problem actually.
computer_guy wrote:Question is, why? That seems to be the answer no one knows.
Because no one else is having that problem? We're trying to solve a problem without a hands-on experience, like we're deaf and blind. And your descriptions (sorry but that's the truth) are not the most descriptive in the world. Can you include a screenshot for example with the dialog (ONLY, not your whole desktop) so we can see what we're talking about?

I'm not trying to say it is or it isn't a VirtualBox problem. But given the fact that 1) no one else has this, 2) you're seeing this outside of VirtualBox (trying to save the log in your documents), and 3) your level of expertise in the Linux world, I'd say that something is wrong with your setup, not VirtualBox.

When I said it's soley a virtualbox issue, i meant on my computer. I don't have issue's at all with saving in my documents etc... outside Virtualbox, only inside. I've posted 2 screenshots (Not the whole desktop) one of the OK being greyed out trying to save in my documents and one of the error message when i try to click on Other... in the dropdown box of the window (after selecting my documents). One thing though that might help me is if you can explain one thing that i'm not sure regarding linux, I'm running KDE (Plasma) as desktop environment, and therefore use default file manager dolphin. Inside programs like Virtualbox, does Virtualbox use a default file manager like built in or using an external one installed on my system? Such as Firefox save as dialog pulls up caja manager which I hate anyway, but some others bring up nicer looking dialogs. Virtualbox doesn't use dolphin, my default, seems to use something I haven't seen. I've had problems with some file managers that cant save in certain folders before without root but as Virtualbox cant be run with root, im just curious on this. This is what it sounds like from previous responses here, that like windows using explorer.exe as its one and only file manager thats what every program uses, didn't know if that was imilar within linux. I wouldn't know how to change it if thats the case though, KDE is set to use dolphin as default but no program seems to respect that setting anyway.

Post the output of:
  • ls -al /home/daryn/Documents
Also, did you navigate to that folder or did you enter it manually?
For navigating to the folders, click the downwards arrow (v) and select "Other...".

from the output above, I had removed the filename's from the right hand side as those were 'too sensitive' to post on the web. I had navigated to the folder by doing as you said, selecting the dropdown arrow and selecting "Other...". Never typed in or attempted to the path.

That's as useful as a refrigerator to a polar bear. I'm sorry, but this is practically useless.

One last "hail Mary" as they call it on carryball American football:
  • You're not running VirtualBox as another user, like root or something, right?
And since I have a feeling that I know what the answer is, I think that this was the last thing I could ask...
