If that is a discussion about the fork, please do not have it here. Forks should be discussed on the site of whomever created it.

Hi Fummeleisen
1. No, I simply did apt-get update and then upgrade
2. Don't know how to use logging mode on XP. Boots fine in recovery and command line mode.
I had to reinstall grub2 after my ubuntu host refused to boot at all today. Still no success with the VM booting, but have attached the latest VB log.
Thanks for your interest

@Fummeleisen
I burrowed into the Win XP when it was up in Safe Mode. The last entry in the System Event Viewer (before crashing) simply says "The Event Log Service was started".
I've looked at the Device Manager and can't see any issues there. as far as I remember there was a red exclamation mark next to items that were obviously problematic.
EDIT: Not that there were any exclamation marks to be seen.

Re: Ubuntu 16.04: Windows XP Guest will not launch
After importing various OVAs I had previously exported without them running successfully I found one that was nearly four years old that ran. Still have no idea what went wrong.
