I am trying to access my Samsung mobile phone via a program called Odin. It is used to flash stock. When I use VB odin loads but does not see the phone attached via usb. The boxes under the ID:COM heading are blank. They should show the phone's id. Under the WinXp settings in VB the Android phone is showing as attached (0400). I have to borrow a windows machine to actually use Odin but I would prefer to access the phone via VB. Any idea why I can not?

Please read the following thread: USB basics and troubleshooting, all of the posts. If you still have a problem after reading through the whole thing, please follow the advice of the last post.

Please pay special attention if what you're doing to your phone is changing its ProductID. They might reset them to 0000 or something similar and the USB filter that you might have created might fail to re-capture the device.

I would feel pretty sure that a modern Samsung phone is USB3. My S7 certainly is. You're gonna have trouble talking USB3 with XP (see USB Support in XP Guests).

And it's not a simple mass storage UI either, I'm not sure what it is. My Win10 host installed drivers automatically, but on XP you may have to install drivers manually, and XP drivers may not exist... unless Odin doesn't need them?
