I noticed that none of my Guests were playing sound. Further inspection of Audio settings showed that two settings were not defaulted ON. Both were OFF.
In vboxmanage, the two values are
vboxmanage machinename --audioin on --audioout on

I added these two options to my machine generation script.
Input Audio In will toggle to ON based off of the command however Audio Out will not.
I have to either go through GUI Machine settings or manually change by accessing Sound Tray Icon.

I believe that this is actually a bug in VirtualBox 5.2.x, I filed a new ticket, #17409. See in there for more details...

The issue has been fixed (and confirmed) with 5.2.12.
