Can't change setting in powered down state

Post by Dakotaslim »

I read that you can't change the setting in a saved state but my guest is shut down. I created a new machine and without even running it, I couldn't change the settings. I can't even discard a machine. Any clue?
I rebooted Ubuntu, restarted Virtual Box. opened and shut down the guest. Started guest in Safe mode and exited. The issue seems to be with Virtual Box. I don't want to uninstall and reinstall or I'll lose my guest.

Please provide a VM log file. With the VM fully shut down, right click it in the GUI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (ONLY) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

And a question which occurs: you do have write access to the folder the .vbox file is in? I.e. you aren't trying to access VMs in another users documents folder right?

It won't let me create a log. Drop down menus don't work. Right-clicking brings up nothing. The weird thing is this morning, I went in and it worked. Now, it won't work again. I only have one user on this machine. I must have rights because sometimes it works. If it starts working again, I might be able to create a log, but that might not show the problem since it will be working at that time. I can check and uncheck boxes but the drop down options don't work.

I suggest that you run a filesystem check on your host. It sounds like you may have wider problems.

I would also try it with USB disabled, because I'm seeing a lot of strange USB activity in the log. It all seems to be from the same device, which presumably doesn't want to be connected to your VM:-

Did you add a USB filter to your VM? If so what device are you trying to grab?
