Guru Meditation due to Serial Port Use?

Post by mfam_310 »

Just received a Guru Meditation 1155 (VINF_EM_TRIPLE_FAULT) while running an upgrade on an appliance that I had running just fine in virtualbox.

I was able to recover by killing off the process associated with the VM (it was pegging all physical cores) and then disabling the serial port.

Host:
Dell Precision 7510 i7, Fedora 25, 64bit
Virtualbox Version 5.1.22 r115126 (Qt5.7.1) with associated extension pack

Guest:
Check Point Gaia OS R77.30 (basically Red Hat Enterprise 5)

To replicate the problem:
Upgraded appliance to new R80.10 software. After initial reboot, Guru meditation pop up shows at GRUB menu and will continue to show even after subsequent reboots until serial port is disabled.

Since I'm able to live without the serial port, I'm able to work around the issue. But wanted to give others a heads up if they run into the same situation.

Sounds like something you might want to raise a ticket for on BugTracker. They like repeatable crashes there. Either include the log again, or link to this topic.
