How to upgrade from VBox 5.0 to 5.1

How to upgrade from VBox 5.0 to 5.1

Hi,
Hope all are doing good.!!!


I have centos 6.9 physical system and i have installed Virtaul Box 5.0.40. via using unix repo long back
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualb ... albox.repo

I have lot of VM's created in this release.[10 VM machines]

How do i upgrade from VirtualBox-5.0 to 5.1 and don't want to loose any VM machines from VBox 5.0
Please help me how do i accomplish

I tried as a root

$ yum update VirtualBox-5.1 --message: package available but not installed
$ yum install VirtualBox-5.1 --message: conflicts with VirtualBox-5.0 installed paths

When you see the message conflicts, this usually means that the new version can not be installed over the old one. You would first need to remove the old one and then install. All guests should remain intact but a good backup is never the wrong thing to have.

Im not looking this proposed backup solution.

I am looking for upgrade solution from x version to y version.

You should read what I said again. The backup is a suggestion the procedure to remove before install is the upgrade path you need.
