Kali Linux won't go full screen in Virtual Box....I think I've tried everything

Post by Matt854 »

Hi,

I can't get Kali Linux to go full screen in Virtual Box.
I have looked for days for a solution and tried to follow solutions to this same problem on this forum and others but nothing has worked.

A quick bit of system info to start with:
I'm using Virtual Box 5.1.14
In Kali when I enter "uname -r", I get 4.6.0-kali1-amd64
My sources.list files are up to date from the kali website.
I have done apt-get update && apt-get upgrade to ensure my system is as up to date as possible

What I've tried so far is:

Method 1)
apt-get update
apt-get apt-get install -y virtualbox-guest-x11
reboot
I received no warning from the above in the terminal. During the reboot there are some errors which quickly flashed a few "Failed" messages about guest additions. This method was unsuccessful in getting Kali to go full size.

Method 2)
apt-get install -y linux-headers-$(uname -r)
I get the following text:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package linux-headers-4.6.0-kali1-amd64
E: Couldn't find any package by glob 'linux-headers-4.6.0-kali1-amd64'
E: Couldn't find any package by regex 'linux-headers-4.6.0-kali1-amd64'

At this point I don't know what to do.
I would greatly appreciate any help you can offer, and I will happily enter suggested commands and provide you with the full output for analysis.

Thanks very much,

Matt

Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.
