[resolved] cannot manage snapshots in manager

Post by karls0 »

Hi,
this time I try to ask in English.
I use virtualbox for some years and I am on 5.1.14r112924 now. For more than a year I have the same problem. The snapshot button in VirtualBox Manager tells me that I have 3 snapshots, but when I click on it nothing happened. So it is not possible to merge snapshots - or does anyone know a way?

Hoping for your help or suggestions,
Karl

I'm not familiar with your problem, but did you shut down the VM (not suspend) before clicking the button you mention?

If all else fails you can clone the VM, full clone, current state only, which will create a new VM with all the data from the first, but no snapshots. Note that some guests, e.g. Windows, can sense that the "machine" has been cloned. This is usually not a problem: reactivate and don't use the original again.

Yes, I did close all VM-guests, but the button still does nothing. It's not very important, but tp keep some of the snapshots and only merge a part I need the function of the manager. Thanks for the workaround, but it solves only part of my problem :-(

Perhaps post a screenshot indicating the button you mention, just to be sure we understand each other.

Also, a VM log would be nice: with the VM fully shut down, right click and "Show Log" in the GUI, save "VBox.log" to a zip, and attach the zip here. Don't include any of the other files in the zip.

Your main manager is not right. The split pane has been altered. Run the following in the host terminal, but make sure that the guest and VirtualBox is completely shut down first.

Code: Select all

VBoxManage setextradata global GUI/SplitterSizes 236,516
