Which device blocksize on hostdrive for optimal client performance?

Post by mabra »

Hello !

I am using Virtualbox on a linux host with a ZFS filesystem, which's recordsize can
be software defined. What would be the optimal recordsize, probably even for
different client usage??

Thanks anyway,
Manfred

4K is probably best.

Hi !

Thanks for your reply.

This is not, what I've expected - linux supports huge-pages since a long time and with
this, it allows much larger record sizes.
For use with ZFS, 4k is the worst case. perf starts a little with 8k, but better
would be 64k oder 128 k ...

Manfred
