Mini Toolbar no longer clickable full screen (#16325)

Post by timgood »

Mod edit
There is a ticket for this: #16325 GUI: Toolbar unresponsive in full screen mode
Please try the latest Test Build for a fix: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Testbuilds

Updated to VB 5.1.12 on Kubuntu 16.04 (64 bit) and the mini toolbar when running a full screen VM appears but is no longer clickable. To enable USB devices or insert GA CD I have to exit full screen and use menu bar on top of window. This works, but is a pain when the mini toolbar used to work seamlessly. Any idea how I might be able to fix this?

For me the mini toolbar was just an annoyance as it rarely worked and when it did not well. I finally coded out the whole thing and have not looked back. Use the host+home toggle to bring up a menu instead it never fails.

I have exactly the same problem.

Host OS:
openSUSE LEAP 42.1, fully patched

Virtualbox:
- virtualbox x64 5.1.12; VirtualBox Extension Pack 5.1.12; GuestAddition (Windows Guest) 5.1.12

GuestOS:
- Windows 7 Pro x64 - fully patched; GuestAddition (Windows Guest)

Details:
Everything was working fine with 5.1.10.
After the update, the Mini Toolbar is no longer clickable in full screen.
Hovering the mouse on the appropriate edge, the Mini Toolbar does appear / folds out. It does however not allow any interaction with the mouse (pointer).

Mini tool bar not working.

Post by rdonnelly62 »

Host Linux Mint 18, Guest Windows 7 and windows 10, Box version 5.1.12. Does not work on either guest.

I am able to pull down and see the mini tool bar, but I can not get it to respond with the mouse?

Am I the only one? Any suggestions?

Thanks

No, you're not, that's why I merged your topic. Search functionality seems to be broken...

Issue confirmed on Debian Stretch with KDE5.8 and VirtualBox 5.1.12. The mini toolbar is displayed properly, but clicking on it has no effect at all.

So I learned to use Host+Home ;) But it'd be nice to fix, as for a user who never used and don't know the shortcut, if you're stuck in fullscreen mode the only option is to shutdown the machine to get back to the host (and eventually learn useful keyboard shortcuts ;).

I also have the same trouble. The mini toolbar is displayed properly, but I can't select anything.
There is no different where the mini toolbar is: at the top or at the bottom of the screen.

I can use HostKey+Home to call action menu but I can't minimize the window with the guest machine when it in the fullscreen mode. It is really not convenient.

Host OS:
Arch Linux 4.8.13-1-ARCH KDE (Plasma5) with latest updates

Virtualbox:
Virtualbox x64 5.1.12; VirtualBox Extension Pack 5.1.12; GuestAddition (Windows Guest) 5.1.12

GuestOS:
MS Windows 2k8 x64 - fully patched; GuestAddition (Windows Guest) 5.1.12

Sure. I know about this variant. But it is not convenient for me.
Mini toolbar is more useful for me. And I wrote previous post for the people that can fix this issue. Let this people be aware that this problem is important for some users.

Thank you =)

I suspect your issue stems from the KDE on the host ( vbox has been known not to play well in the KDE environment ) but if this issue is important you really need to search and post in bugtracker where the DEVs live. It breaks they fix it eventually, then it breaks and they fix it, rinse, dry, repeat.. you get the idea.

Thank you! I'll do it right now.

______

So. I was gone to the Bugtracker and I saw this:
Try out a test build to see if the problem has already been fixed.
I downloaded test build of the Virtualbox (Version 5.1.13 r112787 (Qt5.6.1)) and Extension pack and I installed it.
It works perfect. Mini toolbar is completely working.

If somebody wants to have working toolbar then he have to install test-build (5.1.13 r112787) or waiting for update.

Thanks Perryg for idea.

I have the same issue.

Kubuntu 16.04 (64 bit)
KDE 5.8.5 via kubuntu-backports ppa
VirtualBox 5.1.14

This may be a KDE issue as I also have an older computer running Kubuntu 14.04 (64 bit) that still has KDE 4.13.3 on it. I'm running the same version of VirtualBox (5.1.14) and that computer does not exhibit the same behavior. The mini toolbar works just fine.
