openSUSE Leap + plasma5 (KDE)

Post by madworm »

Anybody got it to run reliably?

I don't have any trouble with the base-system, minimal X11 works (e.g. with LXDE).

However, for some reason plasma5 is a no-go. I behaves erratically, quite like the first versions of KDE4, slow, crashing... I've had the same issues with plasma5 on an old laptop and my main PC.

I need a few data-points. Is it VB, my machine(s) or plasma5?

VirtualBox, KDE5 and 3D acceleration do not mix. I do have a Kubuntu 16.04 (KDE Plasma5) guest which runs fine without 3D enabled.

I'll give it a try.

I usually test new openSUSE releases in VB before I upgrade any real machines. This time I made the mistake to upgrade despite it not working properly in a VM. A big mistake. 13.2 runs very well in any constellation, "Leap" on the other hand appears to be a dead frog (for me).

Well, Kubuntu works pretty well I must say. Desktop effects and all.

I guess openSUSE Leap 42 is borked.

I do have an OpenSUSE Leap 42.1 guest running Gnome. It seems fine. I did uninstall the guest additions that came pre-installed and installed the official guest additions. Running VB 5.0.10.
