VM has terminated during startup

I installed ubuntu 14.4 mate and VirtualBox 5.0.4 (virtualbox-5.0_5.0.4-102546-ubuntu-trusty-amd64.deb), but program has terminated with error:

The virtual machine 'win XP' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1).

This sounds like a crash. You should be able to provice a core dump. If so, please mail me at frank _dot_ mehnert _at_ oracle _dot_ com. Either try to compress and mail the core dump. If the file is too big, please upload it to some server and tell me the URL. Please don't forget to provide the corresponding VBox.log file.

Thanks, got it. Are you actually able to start a VM? I guess you are not because /dev/vboxdrvu is not available and therefore most likely also /dev/vboxdrv.

Did you upgrade your host kernel? If you don't have DKMS installed you need to re-compile your host kernel modules (/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup). The crash you observed is still a bug but we need to reproduce it ...

Thanks for the report. It's actually the same like this ticket. There should be really an error message in that case but there is currently a bug which crashes the VM process instead. Will be fixed in the next 5.0.x maintenance release.
