Virtual Box 5 and OpenSUSE Tumblweed dependency issues

Post by KE0ETP »

Virtualbox 5 and opensuse Tumbleweed has a dependency collision that may cause issues should you force use of the newer libraries. Virtualbox 5 depends on libvpx1 and the newest Opensuse Tumbleweed build uses libvpx2.
Also when trying to start a VM without a GUI (over a terminal) or just trying to launch the GUI for virtualbox results in

Code: Select all

Failed to create the VirtualBoxClient COM object. Callee RC: NS_ERROR_FACTORY_NOT_REGISTERED (0x80040154)
However i'm not sure they are connected as libvpx is a graphical dependency and i wouldn't think a COM server would have a graphics dependency (or am i totally wrong?).

Did you try without tumblweed and libvpx2 installed? does it work then? Precises test scenarios would help here, it sounds like this is all speculation at the moment.

At this point it is speculation. However Zypper did complain about Vbox wanting libvpx1. What do you mean without Tumblweed? that the version of openSUSE.

Has anyone information on this issue?

I'm installing VirtualBox 5.1 on Opensuse Tumbleweed (the rolling release).

Virtualbox requires libvpx1 but Opensuse provides libvpx2

Apparently Ubuntu and Debian had this same issue in the past.

Was that an incomplete question Abby123?
