VBox 5.0 / Problems using USB 3.0: VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED

Post by Schimmi123 »

Hi all,

I upgraded my VM on VBox 5.0. I hoped now I'm able to bind my usb 3.0 devices on my Windows7 (64Bit) guest.
But I couldn't use an external usb-device because of getting the following error: VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED.

My Linux user is member of the vboxusers-group, so I think some basics are done.
Has anyone an advice to solve the problem? Do I have anything to configure in the /etc/fstab file or anywhere on my linux host system (Ubuntu 14.04),
so that it works?

Thank you very much...

Did you install the extension pack? You can't use USB2 or USB3 guests without it.

Also note that Windows 7 apparantly did not come with native USB3 (xHCI) drivers, so you would need to find some.

yes, extension pack is installed.
but as you wrote, the xHCI driver for win7 could be the problem.
I didn't know that problem. I'm going to check it.

Hi mpack,
thank you very much for your advice.
now it works on Windows7/64Bit with an intel usb3.0 host controller driver
f.e. check Intel Download-Center for USB-3-0-Driver-Intel-USB-3-0-eXtensible-Host-Controller-Driver-for-Intel-7-Series-C216-Chipset-Family
you have to install the driver on the guest OS, restart the guest and putting the exernal usb-device on.
Now the host controller is already installed and the usb device is going to be installed when putting the device at the usb3.0 interface of your computer.

Great!
