[Fixed] Cant install VirtualBox 5.0 on Ubuntu

I am using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64bit.

I got this when I try to do "sudo apt-get update"

I had the key installed coz I was using 4.3. Anyway I reinstalled the key:

It seems to me that the repository is not ready, at least for our debian/ubuntu user.

So why the announcement for the official release?

Same here. Lubuntu Trusty, Linux Mint 17.1 & 17.2, Peppermint 5 & 6; pretty much anything Ubuntu Trusty-based is unable to update/install, because of this "Hash Sum mismatch". I have tried all the troubleshooting steps above, nothing has helped.

Just now, out of curiousity (I'm wondering why I didn't try this earlier), opening http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian in a browser brings up the expected page, with the typical-looking repo setup. However, try clicking on "dists" or "pool". It's coughing up a 404 for both. THAT'S why we can't update! The REPO'S broken!

Edit: My bad, if I manually go to http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualb ... sts/trusty, it comes up in the browser just fine. Also, wget seems to be able to hit these directories without any problems, so I guess it's not due to a 404 on the repo.

FWIW, here's what I did to update my Ubuntu 15.04 and Linux Mint 17.2 hosts. Downloaded VirtualBox and its extension pack from here… https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
Uninstalled the previous version w/synaptic. Installed the new version w/gdebi

Okay, I've manually downloaded the InRelease & Release files from http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualb ... an/trusty/, and the Contents-* files. Comparing the hashes of the actual files to the hashes in InRelease, they all fail. Filesizes listed in these files are off, too. And, these files haven't been updated since 19 May 2015, so of COURSE they're the wrong hashes for the new release.

This is why those of us on Ubuntu Trusty-based OS's are getting this error when trying to update. The hashes & filesizes of the new files don't match what's in the Release & InRelease files.

Oracle needs to finish updating the repo. We'll either need to do like loukingjr did, or wait a while longer to update.

I also announced the mentioned problem at IRC channel and at #vbox channel and then the user fmehnert announced around half an hour ago: "Just download the deb/rpm manually and install it. We are trying to fix the repos". So probably it would be helpful also to talk a bit also there.

So I downloaded from https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads and uninstalled 4.3.x beforehand and then manually (sudo dpkg -i virtualbox-5.0_5.0.0-101573~Ubuntu~trusty_amd64.deb) new version and everything works for now.
