Virtual machine created from dual boot
I have a dual boot laptop with windows 8.1 and ubuntu 14.04.
Want to create a virtual machine of existing windows8.1 and use in ubuntu on Virtualbox of the same physical machine.
Created the Virtual machine VHD file of Windows8.1 using Disk2Vhd, by Microsoft.
Created Virtual machine in Ubuntu by using Virtual box.
But when I am starting VM on VirtualBox it gives following error message and not booting the windows 8

Re: Virtual machine created from dual boot
Two things here:
- If you want further support here, you'll need to use the official version of VirtualBox (you're using the Ubuntu one) and the latest (4.3.28) would be ideal.
- Your problem is that Disk2VHD also take the Master boot record of your disk, which contains grub (because of your dual boot). Since the disk changed, grub is lost.
You can either fix grub or use your Windows installation media to repair the boot. You can find both procedure on Google - it will be the same as on a physical computer.

Re: Virtual machine created from dual boot
Thanks for the points.
I will change my VB to official and try.
Btw, I have created the p2v with VMWare converter and the VM is booting.
But still I am facing a problem, KB not capturing by VM, but mouse is working fine.
Anyway I will try with the official version of VB and post the outcome here.
Many thanks for your time.

Re: Virtual machine created from dual boot
You probably still have the VMware tools installed in the VM. These need to be removed.
Re: Virtual machine created from dual boot
Thanks Martin for your reply.
No VMTools in my VM, there is only VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client was there, now I removed that also and tried, still could not use KB.
I am trying the same in my Windows host also, but both place same... could not access the KB?
noteirak: in windows host i am using official version of VB.(VirtualBox VM 4.3.28 r100309 win.amd64)

Re: Virtual machine created from dual boot
Did you check in device manager which drivers are used for the keyboard, Microsoft standard drivers or something else?
Re: Virtual machine created from dual boot
Thanks again martin for your point.
Checked the device manager, it took Microsoft standard drivers, but there is an ! symbol near the keyboard,
In the description it shows
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (Code 19).
Tried to update the driver, but it shows driver is up to date after scanning the system.

Re: Virtual machine created from dual boot
Delete/Uninstall the device, then scan for new hardware. It should get reinstalled and should be working after.

Then please attach the VM log file for the session of the issue and the guest settings as described in Minimum information needed for assistance.
