Thinkpad T550 and VBOX = nogo

Post by Propodopolus »

Hello all,

have just decommissioned my trusty X230 and installed the SSD from same in a Thinkpad T550 (I7 5600U). In the X230 everything worked as it was supposed to with this config - Debian 8, Kernel 3.19.3 and Vbox 4.3.26. 16GB memory and SSD throughout.

When I try to port the abovementioned configuration to the T550 (kernel compile in the transition period also) all I get are kernel panics. I have tried with another OS (Linux Mint) guest under VB to rule out that doze 8.1 might have been the culprit, no joy. Start VB on the new box and lights out. Granted that the T550 is running on a different generation of Intel CPU compared to the X230 (Broadwell vs. Ivy Bridge).

Obviously, after the kernel re-compile on the new box, DKMS did it's thing.

Any ideas most appreciated.

See attached logs.

Regards,

EDIT:

UPDATE -

nosmap in grub.cfg on line "linux /vmlinuz-......." seems to be a workaround/circumvention until a fix is released.

Tried the above and now my doze starts.

Hello all,

confirm that booting after applying diff_smap_4 and removing nosmap from the boot config in grub.cfg, starting VB everything works as expected.

See VB ticket number 13961 for further reference.
