(SOLVED) Fail to install Ubuntu 14.04 on VM

Post by satimis »

Hi all

Host - Ubuntun 14.04 64bit
VM to be installed - ubuntu 14.04 64bit
VirtualBox

Settings
Controller IDE -> ubuntu-14.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso

Start -> I can select "Language"
-> either clicking "Try Ubuntu without installing" or "Install Ubuntu" it died automatically after a while.

I have tried the whole afternoon without a breakthrough. Also I have checked md5sum

Pls help. Thanks

Regards

A VM log file would help. Right click VM in GUI, select "Show Log", save "VBox.log" (only) to a file, zip file and attach here. Make sure the VM is shut down before you collect the log of the session.

Hi,

It is a big file.

During trying before, I saw there was a warning somewhere - optical drive not accessible

Yes, that is why I emphasized "zip file and attach here".

not according to the log you posted. the extension packs always match the VirtualBox version.

Lot of thanks for your advice and link. After upgrade the extension pack I can install Ubuntu 14.04.

I have been running VirtualBox sometimes. This is the first time I encountered this problem. This is an old box I couldn't boot USB which is detected by BIOS. After a while it asked for boot disc. I have to install the OS with CDrom. I was mistakenly looking on this direction.
