(SOLVED) Windows 7 installer asks for drivers location

Post by theHedster »

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr host OS
VirtualBox 4.3.10Ubuntu r93012
Windows 7 Home Premium guest

I have burned the .iso file to a DVD and set up passthrough access to the CD/DVD drive on my Toshiba Satellite C660 laptop. The Windows 7 folder for the VM has been created, and the Windows 7 installer starts okay. But just after you click Start Setup, a dialogue asks "Where do you want to install Windows?, displaying the virtual VDI volume.

After you click Next, a dialogue asks you to select drivers, but the list is blank. You can click a link to locate drivers but if I select either the CD/DVD or the X:\ drive (virtual VDI), it says no drivers were found.

****

I think I have found the answer. After searching the forums fruitlessly, a suggestion for another problem was to make the /home/<~my-home>/VirtualBox VMs/Windows 7/ and its subsidiary files and folders Read/Write for owner and group. The installer is humming along doing its thing happily.
