Problems with Network-Access from Guest to Host

Post by LukeBerlin »

Hi,

I have:
- Host: Linux-Mint-17
- VirtualBox 4.3.16
- Guest: Windows 7 Professional SP1

Networking configuration:
- Network bridge, eth0
- Hardware/adapter: Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (82540EM)
- Promiscous modus "allowed to both Host and Guest"
- Option "cable" is on

Under VM-Configuration I added a shared folder /home/lukasz/VMexchange/

Now when I am on my Win7-Guest, I can see other PCs, for example my host called "lukaszmint". But when I click on it, I got the error message that it cannot be accessed.
The ping (from windows cmd) to host IP 192.168.178.21 works, however! So maybe there is only a problem with the name? But on the other hand, when I type \\192.168.178.21\ in Windows Explorer, there is no access too. Is there a Windows-Service or Protocol I should activate?

Furthermore, I have a general question:
Since I would like to use my VM without any additional cables like my LAN-cable (I use it only to have faster downloads to my host), what is the right configuration to connect to my VM? I seems to me, that in the eth0-mode I have to stick my LAN cable to my Host, right? And in the wlan0-mode the connection should go over the WLAN-router?
Do I understand it right: when using "network bridge" I have to go over my internet-network (router), thus using a additional software?
My favorite way of connection between Host and Guest would be:
a.) that both see each other (file access, ports if opened)
b.) even if my Host is offline (it is a notebook, by the way).
Is it possible???
