I have never had a problem making a snapshot of a VM before. Today, I made a bunch of virtual machines, installed OS's, and now, whenever I try to create a snapshot on these machines, it gives me an "NS_ERROR_CALL_FAILED (0x800706BE)" error. It will keep coming up until I delete the files for the virtual machine.

I just realized that I selected QED as the format for the machines hard drive file. Could this be the problem? If so, why? I just did a google search and couldn't turn up any information on why it would matter.
Thanks.

Re: NS_ERROR_CALL_FAILED when making snapshots
If the QED format doesn't support snapshots then of course that could be a problem. Why on earth did you select such as obscure format? VDI is the native format in VirtualBox.
Also - I think you might struggle to post a more useless screenshot than that! Couldn't you have trimmed the image?

Not that it probably matters now, but here's the cropped image. I'm not sure why you say it was useless... it looked fine on my computer.
Why did i pick the format? Because I like experimenting. I didn't think it mattered that much. I couldn't find any information on why it would, anyway.

Do you really need to be told not to wander off piste without good cause?Risshuu wrote:Why did i pick the format? Because I like experimenting. I didn't think it mattered that much. I couldn't find any information on why it would, anyway.
VirtualBox supports third party image formats for the purpose of allowing - at least potentialy - VMs created in other VM platforms to be made to run in VirtualBox. There is no guarantee that all formats have equal functionality or reliability. Support in some cases will be minimal and/or not thoroughly proven. In fact, only VDIs are guaranteed to support the full VirtualBox functionality, because that is the only format which VBox fully controls the spec of.
The QED choice itself is so obscure that I do believe this is the first time I've heard someone mention using it. You could post a ticket on BugTracker about the failure to create snapshots from this format, but I can't promise that anyone will get to it soon.
