I am using ubuntu 14.04 with gnome desktop 3.10 (no unity). I make pretty heavy use of the virtual destop feature. I would like to be able to run excel and visio in a seamless VM, but have each application in a different gnome virtual desktop (basically one in desktop x and the other in desktop y)
Is this possible or do I need to run two completely seperate windows VM's to make this happen?

Seamless is iffy at best. Have you tried to do what it is you are wanting and did it fail?
I have not tested but I would think that running a second VM seamless on a separate DT (actually started on the second DT) might work.
