Apparently there are still those who don't know what "Hint" does. It is used to set the maximum resolution of guests. Not to set a specific resolution.
so if in VB Preferences>Display>Maximinum Guest Screen Size:
if set to Hint: <w,h>, the maximum screen size a guest can grow is <w,h>.
If set to "Automatic", The screen will grow to the native resolution of the host.
If set to "None", it can grow larger than the native resolution of the guest.
As I mentioned earlier, according to the manual it only effects Linux and Solaris guests.
However, as I mentioned in another post, At least on OSX hosts, if "Hint" is set, Windows guests always open at 1024, 768 no matter what the resolution is set to.
OSX, Linux and Windows Hosts & Guests
There are three groups of people. Those that can count and those that can't.
