I just recently installed unbuntu, because i guess microsoft doesn't support 3rd party sata, and toshiba doesn't have a driver. Windows will not see my harddrive. I switched systems, and now i'm running VBox to do things for work inside. I'm just wondering what do I configure to make the Vm see the usb ports.

o i forgot i have the usb enabled, i did the /etc/fstab edits. Changed it to the number for the vbox and myself. I have it enabled, but when i plug it in only ubuntu see's it not my vm. If everything is enables why does it not show up?

this process worked for me http://www.arsgeek.com/?p=2776 only catch is that you have to disable the filters (requiring a shutdown of the windows guest) if you want the USB to come back to the ubuntu host, particularly for sTorage devices.

I have instead decided to use shared folders for file transfers keeping the USB drive inside the ubuntu host.
