G'day all,
I have XP running in a Virtualbox session on a Centos 5 server. It's there to allow multiple people to access (not simultaneously) a single-user version of Quickbooks via RDP, without having to wait the 3 minutes it takes Quickbooks to load even on my quite quick PC, just to print a customer receipt. The application starts in the morning when the server starts, so is ready and waiting for anyone to use it. The data file is located in a samba share on the same server.
However, not infrequently, when opening the RDP connection, Quickbooks appears, but as soon as we try and click on the interface to open a form, it report "Lost connection to data file" and needs to be restarted, taking the obligatory 3 minutes. This seems to be more likely to occur the later into the day it is; i.e., the longer the Virtualbox session has been running.
This is frustrating, and whilst it doesn't happen all the time, somewhat defeats the point of the exercise.
Is there a setting in Virtualbox that would cause - or solve - this problem?
Thanks
Edwin
Lost connection to data file
Re: Lost connection to data file
Does the data file *need* to be accessed via Samba? Could you not setup a Shared folder in VirtualBox via the settings page for the guest XP VM? Or locate the data file on the local disk drive of the VM (c:\ ?)
Re: Lost connection to data file
Yes, thanks - setting up a shared folder solved the problem
