USB Proxy Service Error after Upgrade

Post by PlasticJesus »

Hi all:

I updraded from FC15 to FC16 (Kernel 3.1) and VirtualBox to 4.1.6 r74713 (from previous 4.1.6 release).

I now get the following error when I edit my VM settings:
Failed to access the USB subsystem.
Could not load the Host USB Proxy service: VERR_DISK_FULL.
The disk is not full.

The extension pack with the matching version is installed, and has a green check.

My user is verified to be in the vboxusers group.

I tried playng with permissions on /dev/vboxusb but that had no effect, so I reverted to 750.

I notice that there are no /proc/usb* anything, and I believe there was before the kernel upgrade.

Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

Perry:

My guest additions installed fine on all guests.

I should have perhaps been more clear about the exact symptoms.

Symptom 1) From VirtualBox Manager / Settings (for Windows guest)
Failed to access the USB subsystem.
Could not load the Host USB Proxy service: VERR_DISK_FULL.
Symptom 2) Once running started Windows guest, no USB devices appear in 'Devices/USB Devices'

Thanks for any help!

Yes I know but for some reason someone else posted about the extension pack under the topic about guest additions.
Did you click and read the bugzilla ticket? It has to do with updating fedora 15 to 16 and the issue sounds a lot like what you post as a problem.

I hadn't looked at the Bugzilla - I just read it in detail.

Unfortunately, that's not it. Although my /etc/shells did have the duplicate 'dash' entry, 'bash' was still present, and removing the extra 'dash' had no effect.

It seems like a permissions problem, since there is plenty of room on the file system. But, not being familiar with changes posed by the 3.1 kernel, I'm a bit at a loss where to look.

I've posted on FedoraForums as well at http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthrea ... ost1530248, since I'm sure other will come across this issue.

SOLVED - By uninstalling Extension pack
sudo VBoxManage extpack uninstall "Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack"
Then reinstalling from command line
sudo VBoxManage extpack install Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.1.6-74713.vbox-extpack
