Failed to assign the machine to the session (solved)

Post by Temet »

Hi all,

Yesterday (all my troubles seemed so far away), I tried Virtualbox.
I first compiled the GPL version on my Gentoo box. Everything was perfect, it was working damn great. But I couldn't use USB. After some research on the web, I found that I needed closed-sources version for USB support.

Ok, I installed it.

I tried to open my virtual machine (Windows XP) but it failed. I thought that maybe it was not compliant, so I deleted it to create a new one.
... but I got the same mistake!! When I create one and click on "finish", it fails.

You can see the error here : http://img354.imageshack.us/img354/3038 ... boxek5.png

I didn't find anything about this error.

After a while, a bit desperate, I tried to create one in "root" and it worked o_O''. But I don't want to run Virtualbox as root!

I tried to remove the ~/.Virtualbox directory, but nothing changed.

My user is in the vboxusers group.

Notice that if I reinstall the GPL version from sources, it works... but I need USB support.

Please, if you have any suggestion ... I really loved the few I used this program and would like to use it

Solved, doing like this:
- uninstalling
- removing ~/.Virtualbox
- removing "vboxusers" group manually (what I didn't do before)
- reboot (... when you're desperate, you're desperate)
- reinstalling
- putting my user in "vboxusers" group again
Gentoo user.
