WinXP guest hogs CPU

Post by kjdickinson »

I use VirtualBox at work for running a WinXP machine required to access all my corporate resources. Generally I am only running Outlook and Communicator with the occasional Work or Excel thrown in.

My host is running Fedora 10 with 4GB ram and an Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 @ 3.16GHz.

My VirtualBox version is 4.0.4 r70112. I run with the guest in seamless mode spread over two displays.

I am experiencing some periods where the CPU usage on my host spikes to 90-100% for the VirtualBox process. Generally this happens in periods where the guest is idle and I am performing tasks on the host machine.

Is anyone aware of this issue and have a remedy? Is there any way to cap the VirtualBox process at a certain usage level without killing Windows performance?
