clonehd while vm is running

Is there anyway to clone hd while the vm is running.
I've tried that, and ran into error, unless I shutdown the VM.

well, ideally I think it will be better to be able to clonehd while the VM is running.
Not sure if that is possible

Everything has a maintenance schedule. You should setup one if you truly want the backup/restore to work should you need it. Other than that why bother.
You can research rsync and see if you can get to where you need.
