Virt. mach. window set to work in 32bit virt. display 16bit

This below "message" comes up as guest OS starts installing and keeps bugging me thru install. It seems to never finish the install [worse than a windows install] and Guest OS runs very slow if it is completely installed. I cannot figure out how to do what it means by setting virtual display to 32 bit. The OS' I'm wanting to virtualize are Ubuntu 9.10, Mint 8, SuperOS, Fedora 12, and Open Suse 11.2. I had no problems getting WindowsXPPro on there as first V. OS except I accidentally disabled updates before SP3 got it's fingers in the pie and update keeps freaking out as Comodo security monitor reports notices of an .exe program trying to install.... Oh well! I only use XP to occasionally scan or fax. Something Ubuntu or for that matter any other distro I've tried hasn't made it easy enough for me to get scanner and pcfax working in them even when Linux drivers are supplied by machine manufacturer......yet! FingersXXX and yea would like some mouse scroll control for Java apps. too... Here goes with the quoted message.....

I did find a compatibility list on Sun's site dated 2/2010 that doesn't include Suse 11.2 and I don't remember if any of the others were listed either.
Am I to assume that Linux is using 16bit color mode with no chance of using 32bit or have I missed a menu item for making the change or latest Linux releases are not compatible?
Do forgive I've got Dementia and things are not always in the same plane sometimes.
I'm limited to very little command line also unless it is copy and paste.... my memory won't allow me to learn new and do new and complicated in close proximity. Thanx SW %

Install the guest additions and if the warning comes up again just put a check mark in to to not show again.

I thought I had guest additions installed but it said it was the wrong one.
I did not install VB OSE 3.1.4 from repositories and I think it took 2.?? guest additions from repository. I uninstalled 2.?? in repository thinking it was smart enough to find the right one but I guess not. There was a guest additions installed because I could get full screen and Mouse and KB were functioning seamlessly. I've been trying to figure out how to download and install correct Guest additions and cannot even find where to download it from. If I had the source I think I'd download and burn it to cd and use the install from cd in menus. My mind is going crazy trying to figure this out. My demential fizzles brain out before I can complete any thing done. I think I found the source once and got it downloaded but then couldn't find where it was put. I also faintly remember using synaptic to install it. Anyway something is amiss.

Click on the devices tab at the top left of the guest window and then click on install guest additions.

Nothing happens.
I tried deleting Ubuntu 9.10 in order to reinstall it but it says it cannot be deleted.

Apparently the Ubuntu9.10 Vmachine no longer shows in VBox but when trying to reinstall it I get the above message? How to remove the Ubuntu9.10.vdi so I can start all over?

It sounds like you have deleted the VM from the main program GUI but it remains on the Hard drive. Open the main program GUI and click on file then media manager. Find it there and tell VBox to remove it. When asked if you want to delete it say yes.

Thanx PerryG., got that removed. I remembered I had done that before as I was doing it but dementia kept me from remembering how to do it without any help again sorry!!!.
I ran into nuthur problem that keeps me puzzled. Linux just seems way to slow and unpredictable installing and using as some examples quoted below.
After removing previous install per your last post I reinstalled ubuntu 9.10 on VirtBox and tried installing guest additions after the installation finished.
“Devices> install guest additions”
I got this error message!
“Unable to mount the CD/DVD image /usr/share/virtualbox/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso on the machine Ubuntu9.10. Would you like to force mounting of this medium?
[forcing unmount got me this message]
Could not mount the media/drive '/usr/share/virtualbox/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso' (VERR_DEV_IO_ERROR).

I also am getting notification that I'm out of had disk space too. Ubuntu was installed with partition expanding capabilities.
Plus it just runs too slow to be useful.
My motherboard is an ECS K7S5A v.1 processor is AMD AthlonXP 1700+.
Is mobo processor combo capable?
WindowsXP works fine with Vbox but is a tad slower. Linux is problematic. Any ideas?

Mount the guest additions in the guest settings (under storage) before you start the Ubuntu guest then it will appear.
As for running out of disk space you need to make sure what is running out of disk space. Is it the guest or the host?

If you are talking about storage in settings button/tab I don't see anything to do with guest there.
BTW I'm able to do full screen and move mouse pointer all over the screen all; do you suppose it is using the guest additions for windows installation or something else like maybe wrong version? It never was able to mount the cd when I tried installing guest additions and wanted me to force unmount. I'm using the OSE version if you didn't get that already.
I believe it is guest that is running out of space. I don't remember details other than it let me scan the drive/disk and the chart showed the drive all used up and I think I remember something about 8gb. Pri master is 100Gb or 93.3 Gib and there is 75.? Gib left of that, 13.8 used.
trying to boot 9.10 vm to check error messages again I now get "Fatal: no boot medium found! System halted." again.
I've used GParted to try and see details but Ubuntu doesn't show in there and neither does WindowsXP. I tried??.... forgot what I was typing!!!
cd/dvd images in virtual media manager has Vbox guest additions .iso stating that the size is 29.39kb
I'll try removing Ubuntu and reinstalling it mean time...

Does it really have that big of a performance hit?

From this post -> viewtopic.php?f=2&t=24273 it looks like you can make the warnings go away by settings some extra data params on the command line.
