PXE support for virtio-net?

Post by vlaero »

I have a lab where OS builds are initiated via PXE boot. I'm wanting to set up the linux distros that support it to use the new paravirtualized network adapter.
I noticed that PXE boot is not supported using this setup in 3.1.2 PUEL.
Is there a timeline at this stage for when the virtio-net adapter will support PXE?

You can do! Just try this:
http://www.etherboot.org/wiki/romburning/vbox
Works like a charm! See the attachment.

PS: Hey VirtualBox developper guys!
Why not use the gpxe bootrom code per default for virtual nics? Much better than the oldscool pxe.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread..

I've been unable to locate or build a bootrom with support for bzImage for use with virtio-net.
Are there instructions that work with VBox 5.0?
Could you point us to a binary payload that works?
Thanks,

Vincent
